CORONA-VIRUS - 65 Out of 169 Almajiris Brought Back To Kaduna Tested Positive For COVID-19 – El Rufai

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that 65 out of the 169 almajiris brought back to the state have tested positive for the coronavirus. The governor said this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. “We received 169 almajiris from Kano, of Kaduna State origin, and we immediately quarantined them because of the situation that we are aware of in Kano. “Out of the 169 so far, 65 were positive for coronavirus,” he said. The governor had earlier explained that the Northern State Governors’ Forum had taken a decision at a meeting three weeks ago, that they would put a stop to the almajiri system in the region. According to him, part of the steps taken was to repatriate all almajiris back to their states of origin. “What we agreed on as governors, is that each state governor will take delivery of these almajiris and return them to their parents and ensure that they go to school”. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has asked Nigerians who are concerned about how the Abacha Loot is being spent, to take a deeper look into the budget. Mr Adesina gave this advice on Wednesday when he appeared as a guest on  Channels Television’s   Politics Today . He said, “What the loot had always been used for had always been in the budget. “If people just take the time to study the budget properly, they will see the sub-heads that accounted for those funds.” “Every year’s budget in the preceding years had that sub-heads –  ‘recoveries’  and that is the Abacha loot and what it was used for is clearly stated in the budget. “Particularly last year and the year before, it was used for the Social Investment Programme,” Adesina added. Breaking: NNPC Reduces Ex-Depot Price Of Petrol

The  Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)  has announced a reduction in the ex-depot price of petrol from N113.28k per litre to N108.00K per litre across all its products loading facilities. JUTH sacks 25 doctors amid COVID-19 pandemic

Another industrial crisis is brewing at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, following disengagement of 25 doctors by management of the hospital.  The sack drew the ire of National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, which asked the Chief Medical Director of the hospital to reverse the action with immediate effect, especially as the facility is one of the isolation centres for COVID-19 management in the state. But the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of JUTH, Mrs Bridget Omini, said “there is nothing like that. FG, states’ll feed schoolchildren at home, minister insists

The Federal Government, in partnership with states, is set to start feeding schoolchildren in their home, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, announced on Wednesday. On April 8,  The EMAGE  reported that the Federal Government had finalised plans with state governments to start feeding schoolchildren in their respective homes. Speaking on Wednesday at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja, Umar-Farouq said the government had overhauled the school feeding programme in a way to ensure that schoolchildren were fed at home despite the lockdown. FG makes changes in evacuation of Nigerians from US

Evacuation of the first batch of stranded Nigerians in the United States earlier scheduled for Sunday has been brought back to Saturday. Also changed is the flight number from ET 509 announced on Sunday to ET 8509 by the same carrier, Ethiopian Airlines. The Consulate-General of Nigeria in New York announced the changes in a statement issued on behalf of the Nigerian Missions in the U.S., on Tuesday. In a notice on Sunday, the consulate had said no fewer than 700 Nigerians registered with the missions in the U.S. for evacuation, to be done in batches.It said the plane could only accommodate 270 passengers, who would be picked on first-come-first-served basis. The Federal Government has extended the ban placed on flights in the country as part of efforts to curtail the spread of coronavirus for another four weeks. The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at the daily briefing of the task force on Wednesday.
