Fear has gripped residents of Kano state over the unusually high number of deaths that have been recorded in the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 13 prominent people including professors, a newspaper editor, and other professionals are reported to have died in the state. According to The Nation newspaper, some prominent people who died in the state within Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 include:
1. Prof Ibrahim Ayagi 2. Dr Musa Umar Gwarzo 3. Alhaji Dahiru Rabiu (former Grand Khadi) 4. Musa Tijjani (Editor of Triumph Newspaper) 5. Adamu Isyaku Dal, who was a former Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board 6. Alhaji Salisu Lado 7. Hajiya Shamsiyya Mustapha 8. Hajiyaj Nene Umma 9. Alhaji Garba Sarki Fagge 10. Dr Nasiru Maikano Bichi, Secretary Student Affairs, northwest university 11. Prof Aliyu Umar Dikko of Physiology Department, Bayero University Kano

Professor Balarabe Maikaba, a senior lecturer of mass communication at the Bayero University, Kano Several people in the state are reported to have died from unexplained causes. Reports have emerged that cemeteries in the state have witnessed an increase in the number of burials. The increasing death rate amid the coronavirus pandemic is said to be causing fear among some residents in the state. Meanwhile, following the mass deaths recorded in Kano state amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded an investigation should be launched into the situation immediately.
