Kano loses 13 prominent people within 24 hours

Fear has gripped residents of Kano state over the unusually high number of deaths that have been recorded in the state amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 13 prominent people including professors, a newspaper editor, and other professionals are reported to have died in the state. According to The Nation newspaper, some prominent people who died in the state within Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 include:

Adamu Isyaku Dal, who was a former Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board 6. Alhaji Salisu Lado 7. Hajiya Shamsiyya Mustapha 8. Hajiyaj Nene Umma 9. Reports have emerged that cemeteries in the state have witnessed an increase in the number of burials. The increasing death rate amid the coronavirus pandemic is said to be causing fear among some residents in the state. Meanwhile, following the mass deaths recorded in Kano state amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded an investigation should be launched into the situation immediately.

The All Progressives Congress has welcomed opinions expressed by former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, suggesting measures to be adopted by the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu (retd.) to diversify Nigeria’s economy.
